On Friday, June 6th, during the Social Day of the EMMA Conference, we invite participants to explore Rome independently through three specially curated itineraries. Each itinerary starts at a convenient meeting point near the Nomentana area at 8:30 – 9:00 AM and allows participants to discover the city’s most iconic sites at their own pace.

Participants are encouraged to choose the itinerary that best matches their preferences and to join at the designated meeting point. All three routes offer a balanced mix of culture, history, and culinary experiences, ensuring a memorable Roman adventure.
Feel free to explore each destination at your own pace and make spontaneous stops along the way to fully enjoy the vibrant city atmosphere and indulge in Rome’s exceptional food and wine culture.
Starting point: Piazza Bologna (Metro station entrance)
Experience the timeless charm of Rome’s most famous landmarks.
- Colosseum and Roman Forum:

- Booking: It is strongly recommended to book tickets in advance
- Take Metro Line B from Piazza Bologna to the Colosseum.
- Explore the ancient amphitheater and the Roman Forum independently.
- Suggested stop: Grab a cappuccino and cornetto at Bar La Licata, a popular spot for a quick Italian breakfast.
- Via dei Fori Imperiali:
- Walk along this historic road, taking in the grandeur of ancient ruins and monumental structures.
- Piazza Venezia and the Vittoriano:

- Admire the iconic Altare della Patria and enjoy panoramic views from the terrace.
- Suggested stop: For a classic Roman lunch, try Trattoria Melo near Piazza Venezia, offering traditional pasta dishes like carbonara and amatriciana.
- Pantheon:

- Stroll through Rome’s charming streets to reach the Pantheon.

- Piazza Navona:
- Discover one of Rome’s most beautiful squares, home to fountains, street artists, and elegant architecture.
- Suggested stop: Cool off with a refreshing gelato from Gelateria del Teatro, located in one of the picturesque alleys nearby.
- Campo de’ Fiori:
- End the tour in this lively square, perfect for enjoying lunch or an aperitivo.
- Suggested stop: Savor a glass of Italian wine at Il Goccetto, a cozy wine bar renowned for its extensive wine list and Roman antipasti.

- Piazza Buenos Aires (Fountain of Frogs):
- Pause to enjoy the charming square and its unique fountain.
- Via Veneto:
- Walk along this glamorous street, a symbol of Roman dolce vita, lined with historic cafés and elegant hotels.
- Suggested stop: Enjoy a classic aperitivo at Harry’s Bar, a historic venue frequented by celebrities in the 1950s and 1960s.
- Borghese Gardens and Galleria Borghese:

- Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica:

- Take Metro Line B to Termini, then transfer to Line A and get off at Ottaviano.
- Visit the Vatican Museums and marvel at the Sistine Chapel (advance booking recommended).

- St. Peter’s Square:
- No for the Basilica, but yes for the dome climb
- Tickets for the dome are available at the entrance
- Spend time exploring the iconic square and the grand basilica.
- Castel Sant’Angelo:
- Ticket required. They can be purchased at the entrance
- Take a short walk to this historic fortress, once a papal residence and a military fortress.
- Suggested stop: Grab a snack at L’Isola della Pizza, famous for its pizza al taglio (pizza by the slice).
- Crossing the Tiber River:
- Walk across the Ponte Sant’Angelo to reach the bohemian neighborhood of Trastevere.
- Trastevere:
- Explore the cobbled streets, vibrant street art, and artisan shops.
- Suggested stop: Enjoy lunch at Tonnarello, a trattoria renowned for its cacio e pepe and amatriciana.
- Santa Maria in Trastevere:
- Visit one of Rome’s oldest and most beautiful churches, a masterpiece of medieval mosaics.
- Piazza Trilussa:
- Conclude the tour at this lively square, a perfect spot for a final aperitivo at Bar San Calisto, a beloved local hangout.

- Dress code: Visitors to churches, including the Vatican, must cover shoulders and knees.
