Partner, Head of Rome Office - ICONSULTING
I started working on data and algorithms in 1988, just after my Master Degree in Electronic Engineering and a Ph.D. in Systems Safety both at the University La Sapienza in Rome.
My first projects where in the context of Analytics and Decision Support Systems for the Defense industry, specifically for the Italian Army and the Italian Navy. I then moved to do the same for the European Space Agency, where I was the Software Architect of the Financial Control System for the Columbus Project. I then worked four years in the United Kingdom, being the Chief Software Architect for a big multinational defense project.
I returned in Italy in 1998 and joined Oracle, starting up the Italian Business intelligence and Data Warehouse practice. After many important projects for Telcos and many other industries, I was appointed in 2006 responsible for the entire Business Intelligence practice in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
In 2009, after the Hyperion acquisition, I was appointed responsible for Western Europe of the Enterprise Performance Management Product Line.
In 2011 I became Oracle Country Leader Business Analytics for Italy, being responsible of License Sales.
In 2013 I started working on the concept of the first Master in Big Data Analytics in Italy, for the LUISS Business School, which I created together with Prof. Giuseppe Ragusa. I was appointed director of LUISS Big Data Analytics Master Programmes in July 2015 and I have since then disseminated all LBS Masters with Data Science modules. I also created Datagirls, a programme dedicated to ensuring all girls and ladies attending LBS Masters understand the importance of Data Analysis and Data Science in their future jobs.
I left Oracle at the beginning of 2016 and, besides my work at LUISS, I have worked since then with Iconsulting, a company specialized in Big Data Analytics projects based in Bologna.
I set up their Solution Sales team, changing the company culture in this direction. I then decided to create the Rome office, which I did in the form of an internal start-up, strongly growing up to now, getting up to more than 100 people all specialized in Data Platforms, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning and their governance. In 2020 I created together with Future Education Modena, a Data Science School (Data Arts & Science Institute) dedicated to people who do not come from a STEM background, to increase their employability.
