There’s an old saying, Tutte le strade portano a Roma (All roads lead to Rome), and in my case it has become true. I fell in love with Rome seven years ago and while I was throwing a coin to the Trevi fountain I wished with all my heart to live here at least for a year… today that dream has come true.
My name is Mariana Alejandra Jaume Torpey, I’m Mexican and a specialized labor law lawyer. When my father decided to put me in charge of our legal firm I realized I didn’t have any experience or knowledge to run the whole organization as a business, so I decided to do an MBA.
Besides its unique and magical location, LUISS Business School seemed like the natural choice for me: it is accredited by EQUIS and I wanted a program that was focused on delivering a solid general management education and could give me access to world-leading professors. I also wanted to attend a school that pushed people to learn soft skills and to develop an international network. All of this is LUISS Business School, so the decision was obvious… and till this day it has lived up to my expectations.
Coming from America, the program has also allowed me to learn more about business in Europe, thus, expanding my vision and comprehension of how the business world works.
LUISS Business School offers a mixed group of high achieving students from around the world where you socialize with people from different backgrounds. All of my colleagues are at least incredibly smart. This naturally makes you improve in order to keep up with them, and also gives you a different perspective in life and in business that helps you build a strong network of future leaders.
One of the great perks you get doing your MBA at LUISS Business School is that the program is in English, but because you are in Italy, eventually you either learn or improve also your Italian.
Friends are not the only source of future memories: the professors are top quality and all of them are the best in their field, making themselves approachable and available for our needs. Many of their sessions will stay with me because of their sincere life advice.
Besides being international, the program is also national and attended by some Italian students. With their characteristic hospitality and warmth, they help you call Italy home.
Every course is perfectly structured in order to learn and understand every concept; through every case and group work assigned my leadership style and my strengths as a leader have improved like I never imagined.
As a student I am very involved in all the extracurricular activities that the school proposes and offers for our improvement: a coaching program, social and sport events, and lately one of the best experiences of my life, the opportunity to attend the CASS London Symposium (an annual event organized by Cass Business School in London providing MBA students an opportunity to meet leaders of different fields of life). I was selected to attend the event and could therefore take advantage of the good international relationships that LUISS Business School has with other top business schools.
This experience was rewarding and fulfilling as it gave me an opportunity
to meet a real astronaut, brilliant CEOs, political figures, role models, etc. I was fortunate to enjoy London in venues like the Science Museum, Tower
Bridge, Wellcome Collection, the Royal Institution, and visited different international and important companies. On the first day of the symposium, my colleagues and I won an opportunity to make a marketing pitch to London and Partners showing how much we have learned and how well we work as a team.
My MBA studies have so far been an intense eight months of hard work, but also of personal growth and learning. My advice for the future members of the LUISS Business School family is to always keep your goals and desires in mind: once the program starts, it goes by fast, so keeping your goals constantly in mind is the only way to ensure they get accomplished, and believe me – with the support of the school they will.
I have travelled around the world, but Rome is still the most beautiful city I have ever seen, so start your application process. Believe me, when I tell you, here you will grow but also create memories that you never expected, memories that will be impossible to forget, memories that will be like the city: eternal.
