We are pleased to announce that the report on the analysis of the impact of Plain Packaging on smoking prevalence and tobacco consumption in Australia has been released. The report was originally commissioned by British American Tobacco. The Report looks at five years of post-implementation data (which is a longer time series than any other published analyses of the impact of Plain Packaging on smoking behaviour to date). Analyses show that the impact of Plain Packaging in Australia cannot be distinguished from zero and, in the case of difference-in-differences regression, it is associated with a statistically significant increase in cigarette consumption.
