On November  9, 2015 the LUISS Business School will welcome all MBA students. The MBA Welcome Day is dedicated to the students of the 25th full-time MBA edition. The EQUIS accreditation of the School gives an international recognition to the MBA programme. Finally, and most importantly, students can be assured that they will receive international recognition for their qualification, which is extremely important in today's global environment. The MBA welcome day will start at 3 pm with a greeting from  Prof.  Raffaele Oriani, MBA Director. The students will also be introduced to the MBA Administrative Staff, the Career Service and the class mentors. Information about lessons and the schedule will be handed out and the students will have the chance to ask questions. The evening will end with the “MBA Welcome Dinner” where students will have the chance to mingle with the other students and the Staff. Project Organising Competence Centre (POCC)
LUISS Business School will formally launch the brand new Competence Centre in Project Organising (POCC) with the aim to promote research, build theory, and support improvements in project practices by forging a close collaboration with industrial partners in Italy and internationally. POCC reflects a recent growth in research and teaching expertise in project studies within the Business School and the University at large. It is being established to address a variety of issues concerned with project-based organizing in firms and projects, including innovation, learning, capability building, and strategy. This event will show how to turn impossible projects into possible projects. Two round table discussions will show different case studies, and will focus on challenges and solutions of impossible projects turned into possible and successful ones. We will bring together leading academic researchers and management practitioners to share and debate ideas, discuss project practices, and formulate new research questions. Agenda 09.30 – 09.45  Welcome Coffee 9.45 – 10:00  Welcome and opening remarks session by Andrea Prencipe,  Associate Dean for International Development LUISS BS and Professor of Organisation and Innovation, LUISS Guido Carli University 10.00 – 12:00 Lectio Magistralis by Mark Kozak-Holland  PhD from the Salford University Business School, UK (2014),  he focused on helping organisations to evaluate how emerging technologies can impact their business. Mark puts a different spin on complex business problems by applying lessons from history. 12:00 – 13:30  Round Table on Impossible Projects “Is it possible to manage impossible projects? Challenges and solutions” Speakers: Massimo Debenedetti, Corporate Vice-President for Research & Innovation at Fincantieri Lill Von Borck, Head of Project Management Office region Mediterranean at Ericsson Eugenio Dotta, Senior Vicepresident Sales, Ansaldo STS Andrea Prencipe,  Associate Dean for International Development LUISS BS and Professor of Organisation and Innovation, LUISS Guido Carli University 13.30 - 14.30 Break 14.30 – 16.00 Round Table on EXPO 2015: A real (Im)Possibile project. Speakers: Alessandro Francolini   Head of CU Telecom Italia and Israel  & GCA Telecom Italia at Ericsson Marco Rettighieri,  Chief Operative Director Italferr Andrea Prencipe,  Associate Dean for International Development LUISS BS and Professor of Organisation and Innovation, LUISS Guido Carli University Alberto Prina, TIM Project Expo 2015 – Head of visitor Experience 16.00– 17.15  Closing Remarks Session Lectio Magistralis: It is possible to manage an impossible project. When we say “nothing’s impossible,” we usually mean that given unlimited time, unlimited resources, and really flexible performance standards, we can do anything. In project management, the question is whether the project is operationally possible, able to be done within the envelope of our constraints. As project managers, we know the importance of realistic budgets, schedules, and performance criteria, but let’s face it — we don’t always get the final word. Sometimes we get what we get and have to make do…somehow. Worse, we don’t always know what we’re really going to need. You can’t always tell up front whether the project can actually be accomplished under the current circumstances. By the time we know, it may be too late. Workshop Content Based on Michael Dobson’s book Project: Impossible, part of the “Lessons from History” series, this workshop explores some of the most famous “impossible projects” in human history — things that nobody would have thought possible until they were actually accomplished. Following in the footsteps of great project managers such as Julius Caesar, Charles Lindbergh, Robert Moses, and others, you’ll get the inside scoop on how the most brilliant minds in history solved the most intractable problems in the history of project management. You will undertake a range of practical exercises throughout the day enabling you to relate lessons back to your own projects and apply new learning to your own projects. This interactive workshop incorporates principles from leading Project Management methodologies such as PMBoK® and PRINCE2®, but also demonstrates that successful Project Management does not need sophisticated tools.
